That Was The Week, That Was - 10th October 2025
This week, rather than my usual update about student achievements or school events, it feels most appropriate that the news that broke yesterday should be at the forefront of all our minds: the historic peace agreement reached in Gaza.
It's a moment that deserves our collective reflection, not just as members of The Stanway School community, but as global citizens. After 733 days of conflict, to see leaders finally sit down, commit to a dialogue over conflict, and promise a future of security and hope is nothing short of breathtaking. It is testament to the fact that even the deepest, most entrenched divisions can be overcome through courage, compromise, and sheer determination.
What we are witnessing is not just a news headline; it is History being written in real-time. The agreement that has been reached is a major breakthrough, but it does not guarantee that the war is over, yet. The plan involves a period of ceasefire, including the release of any remaining hostages or prisoners from both sides, a genuine withdrawal of troops and a mobilisation of humanitarian aid into the region. However, this is a very significant start.
Yesterday marked the first day of a difficult but promising period of peace. It offers a powerful, tangible example of the principles we champion every day: mutual respect, understanding, and the relentless pursuit of a better world for all.
As a school community, this peace settlement sets an example to us all. Even the seemingly-impossible can be achieved if we are determined. Only a few days ago, peace in the Middle East seemed little more than a fanciful dream. Today, communities will be starting that process of rebuilding, of healing and of working together towards a better world.
This weekly blog started as a way of updating all our school community about what was going on at school and as a way of celebrating our collective achievements. Sometimes, though, I get the chance to talk not just about our school community, but our global community. This week, our collective celebration extends far beyond our usual geographical reach. This week, we can all join together in hope for a better future.
Have a lovely weekend
