Student Leadership
During your time at the Stanway School you have the opportunity to apply for various leadership roles to make a real difference in the community. You are able to get involved as soon as you start at the school:
At The Stanway School, we believe in empowering our students to play an active role in shaping our school community. Our comprehensive student leadership structure provides numerous opportunities for students across all year groups to develop essential skills, contribute to school life, and represent their peers. We foster a culture where student voice is valued, and leadership is accessible to all who wish to make a positive impact.
Our Prefect System offers a clear progression for students to take on increasing levels of responsibility. From Year 9, students can aspire to become Assistant Prefects, moving through to Deputy Prefects in Year 10, and culminating in the highly respected roles of Prefects and the Senior Prefect Team (including Head Students) in Year 11. These roles provide invaluable experience in leadership, mentoring, and contributing to the daily life of the school, with terms running from January to January for Prefects and May to May for the Senior Prefect Team. Senior Prefects also take the lead in directing various working groups, ensuring student initiatives are brought to life.
The School Council: Your Voice Matters
The School Council is at the heart of student representation, ensuring that student perspectives are heard at all levels. Each year group, from Year 7 to Year 11, has elected representatives who bring forward ideas and feedback from their peers. Years 8-11 each elect two representatives, with their terms running from February to February. Notably, Year 7 students participate through a Rotating Form Captain system from September to February, giving many students the chance to experience representation. The School Council feeds directly into the Senior Prefect Team, ensuring student ideas are championed and acted upon.
Beyond the Prefect System and School Council, students can specialise in areas they are passionate about through our dedicated leadership roles. These include Student Voice Leaders, Wellbeing Leaders, Media, Culture & Sport Leaders, and Learning Leaders. These groups work on specific initiatives, often led by Senior Prefects, and are crucial in enriching our school environment and supporting their peers in various capacities. This allows students to develop expertise and leadership in areas that truly resonate with their interests, from promoting mental health to enhancing our school's cultural and sporting life.
Whatever you passion is, there can be a role for you in our Student Leadership Teams!
