Head of Art Department: Mrs C Eves
The Art curriculum offers an inspiring journey through diverse artistic practices and movements, nurturing creativity and skill development from Year 7 to Year 11. Students will explore fundamental art skills like observational drawing, proportion, and tone, while delving into various art movements such as Cubism and Pop Art. You'll experiment with a wide range of media, including mixed media, colour pencil, watercolour, clay, oil pastel, and even coffee painting, creating everything from Pop Art-inspired confectionary paintings and natural form ceramic sculptures to abstract portraits and clay fish.
The curriculum encourages research into diverse artists like Natalie McIntyre, Andy Warhol, Kimmy Cantrell, and Sandra Silberzweig, fostering critical analysis and personal artistic responses. Projects like the "African Mask project" and "Cityscapes" broaden horizons, allowing students to explore cultural themes and develop complex design ideas. As students progress, they will build a strong portfolio through coursework and prepare for examinations, including a mock examination and the AQA Externally Set Assignment. This comprehensive program equips students with valuable artistic skills and a deep appreciation for art, providing a strong foundation for future studies and careers in the creative industries.
