Head of Department: Mr J Halford-Pollard
Step onto the stage and unleash your creativity with our dynamic Drama curriculum, where imagination knows no bounds! In Key Stage 3, students embark on an exciting journey, mastering the "Drama Basics" – foundational skills for devising and performance work. You'll delve into narrative storytelling, develop compelling characters, explore powerful non-verbal communication, and experiment with diverse theatrical styles, from dystopian narratives to docudrama. Students also get hands-on experience with theatre design elements like lighting, costume, and set design, bringing stories to life.
As you progress to Key Stage 4, our GCSE Drama course offers a deep dive into theatrical practice and theory. You'll engage with compelling plays like Willy Russell's 'Blood Brothers,' exploring its themes and historical context as both actors and directors. A core component is the "Devised Performance," where you'll create and perform your own original dramatic work in response to a stimulus, developing critical thinking and collaborative skills. You'll also refine your acting skills through scripted performances, rehearse and stage extracts, and even perform for a visiting examiner. Drama is incredibly relevant in the modern world, fostering empathy, communication, public speaking, teamwork, and creative problem-solving – essential skills for any future pathway, whether in the arts, business, or beyond!
