That Was The Week, That Was - 12th September

It has been a very busy week at The Stanway School, with students demonstrating their excellent start to the new school year.

Last week, the students earned more than 10,000 Stanway Standard Rewards Points.  However, this week has seen that figure completely blown out of the water!  As I am writing this update, our students have earned more than twice as many points - currently sitting on just over 22,000 points issued just this week!  This means that so many students are demonstrating all the skills, approaches and behaviours that will help them succeed, and that they are getting rewarded for it. I expect our RAK shop will be very busy soon, with students cashing in their points for items and treats.

Beyond our Rewards points, it has also been lovely to see our students so well prepared for school, with their uniform, their punctuality and their resourcing.  These skills are important and will make a tangible difference to their results and enjoyment as they go through their secondary education.  Last year, as a simple example, students that had attendance of greater than 95% got an average grade of over a Grade 5 in every subject.  However, those that had an attendance of less than 90% (i.e. missed on average one day per fortnight) achieved an average of less than a Grade 3 per subject.  The difference that being in school makes cannot be over-stated.

That is why we are pushing our “Don’t Miss a Day” campaign across all our schools in The Sigma Trust this year.  We know that absence happens and young people do have genuine reasons for missing school at times.  But, the impact is huge.  If we all have this target of “Don’t Miss a Day” , the opportunities and outcomes are genuinely rich.  So many students have made such a fantastic start to the school year, let’s keep this going as long as we can.  As we go through the year, there will be plenty of rewards issued for students who meet these targets.  Keep your eyes peeled!

Have a lovely weekend
