That Was The Week, That Was - 5th September 2025
Welcome back!
I hope you all had a wonderful Summer break and got the chance to spend some quality time with friends and families.
It has been a wonderful start to the new school year! Our Summer GCSE Results Day was a brilliant celebration of the achievements of our students and, although it is still early to be thinking about overall performance compared to national levels, it is looking like The Stanway School has had its best ever set of results. In particular, the three key measures that are used to monitor how schools are performing all saw a bigger improvement against national averages:
- The Attainment 8 point score (Top 8 subjects) rose from 47.0 per student in 2024 to 48.0 in 2025, another rise against the 2024 National Figure of 45.9.
- The percentage of students gaining a Standard Pass (Grade 4) in English & Maths rose from 69% in 2024 to 73% in 2025, again exceeding the National figure of 65% in 2024.
- The percentage of students gaining a Strong Pass (Grade 5) in English & Maths saw an even bigger rise from 48% in 2024 to 54% in 2025, far exceeding the National figure of 46% in 2024.
Overall, the students achieved superbly and are now embarking upon their next stages of education having got the grades they needed. We can’t wait to hear how they get on in the coming weeks.
Moving on to this year, our students have started with an exemplary attitude towards their studies (despite the somewhat volatile weather we have had this week). It has been wonderful to see our new Year 7 students enjoy their first week of “big school” and to see all our other students return ready for the next steps in their educational journey at The Stanway School. As I am writing this weekly update, our students have already earned far in excess of 10,000 Stanway Standards Rewards Points in only three and a bit days of lessons! This shows just how positive their start to the year has been and establishes such a fantastic foundation for them for the remainder of the school year. This year, we hope more and more students “cash in” their points in our RAK shop and really benefit from their dedication to their studies.
I hope you all get some time to rest and relax this weekend. The first week back is always a busy one, but it has been an excellent one. Thank you for all your support with our young people and enjoy some, hopefully, good weather over the weekend (fingers crossed).
Take care,
John Player
