Colchester Schools' Rock Prom

On Thursday, 25th February our Year 11 rock band "Double Yellow Lines" took to the stage at Colchester Art's Centre as part of the town's Schools' Rock Prom. Fresh from their successful first gig at The Twist the week before, the lads took to the stage with complete professionalism. The crowd screamed "Stygall, Stygall!" and were not disappointed when James Stygall, Jack Rice, Liam McNamara, Jesper Dean and their 6th Form College singer Nick Jackson delivered a powerful and energetic set, which got the crowd dancing from the first chord.

Well done everyone! "Double Yellow Lines" can be seen again at The Twist on Wednesday 10th March (over 16s only).

The Jack Petchey Award

The Stanway School is very proud to be a part of this scheme and on behalf of the Jack Petchey Foundation; we are constantly looking for students who have gone that “extra mile” or done something which would not normally receive special recognition in school.

Every month students can be nominated by peers or staff if they have made a significant contribution to school life or overcome a personal challenge and one winner will be selected through the House Council system. They receive a certificate, a special pin badge and the school receives £200, which can be spent in the winner’s chosen school department. During the year that they have been nominated winners are invited to a London-based ceremony where people from all over London and Essex get together to share their experiences and celebrate their successes.

Our two recent winners are Katie Potter 10SC (for November 2009) and Jack Ross 10SC (for December 2009). Katie has asked for her money to be given to the Geography Department and Jack’s £200 will be used by the Maths Department.

We will shortly be processing nominations for January and February and will announce the winners in the near future.
