Community Cohesion

All groups of learners have equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from what the school provides. Key performance indicators (student progress, attendance, exclusions) are analysed at group level, any groups differences are explained and addressed. Community cohesion features in curriculum areas and daily practice. Students across both key stages make a very positive contribution to the school, local and wider communities. Within subjects, students learn about their rights and responsibilities and are encouraged to be involved in local and national events, e.g. Colchester Youth Forum, Stanway Parish Council (I'm a Councillor - Get me out of here!), Children in Need.

Activities include:
  • Oral History Project
  • Artist in residence
  • Students evaluating quality of lessons
  • LRC - Students working in National Book Week, Poetry Week, Accelerated Reader
  • Younger students coached by older students (reading)
  • RE curriculum & PSHE curriculum

The school has the Internationalism Award (Foundation Level) and expects to achieve the full award by the end of 2011.
